14 nice looking gee cakes, part 1

Everyone loves to eat a cake once in a while right? I mean, if it was the best food for my health, I would only eat cakes. Carrot cake in the morning, cheese cake for lunch, big triple chocolate cake for diner, and a little cup cake before sleeping… with a glass of milk.

But what about geeks ? Yea sure, those little friendly creatures (hey don’t worry, I’m in the club too) loves to eat cake, but they enjoy it even more if it looks like something they admire. So I watched a bunch of flickr “geek cake” pictures and I’ll show you some of the best geek cakes I’ve seen there. Enjoy!

Lets start with a little entry. I present to you the Super Mario mushroom cupcakes. Doesn’t they look tasty ? And if my geek memory serves me well, the red ones will make you grow up, and the green ones will give you one more life. Eat the skull one at your own risk. Oh, and if you smash the question mark, it’ll give you a dime, but it could break the table so take care.

Pikmin Cupcakes

Those cute and tasty cupcakes were made for a baby shower… aaah even cuter! But I wouldn’t eat the yellow one, because I think that it was this kind of Pikmin that were throwing bombs at their enemies. The blue ones were able to swim I think, and the red ones were not affected by fire. I remember so much useful stuff!

Also, I read Clever Cake Studio’s blog here and I learned things (yea it happens to me once in a while) about how Lori made these little cupcakes (and also other nice looking big cakes for that matter).

It looks like you have to use a recipe to make a cake that will hold its shape, like a recipe that’s “between cake and pound cake with a fine crumb”. Also, if it’s hot at your home, you’ll have much more trouble to succeed. Read Clever Cake Studio’s blog if you want to learn some tips and tricks about how to make those kind of cakes (or cupcakes).

Here are some other great cakes I’ve found from Clever Cake Studio’s flickr profile :

A Penny Arcade cake. Hey I already made a post that was featuring Penny Arcade : Top 10 Webcomis for Total Geeks. What a coincidence!

This one is not really a geek cake but I found it really cute nonetheless. A little blue dragon!

Super Mario Made from Cake Pieces

This Mario was made from several little cake pieces as you can see. I think that it’s a really original idea, and it gives me some idea too for myself. It’s not really hard to make the cakes, so I might use that little trick some time.

A funny quote from d-day (the owner of the picture) : Something did feel totally wrong about eating Mario pixel by pixel, though….

Iphone Cakes

If you’re at a geek party and your phone rings, be sure that you’ll answer your real phone and not a cake! Here are the best IPhone cake pictures I’ve found.

Another original cake. Is that a twitter app, I never saw that app in the app store!? How good is it ?
P.S. I didn’t know that you could add a picture to a cake though, it’s nice to know. What about a cake with a picture of the table behind it, just like the “transparent desktop” concept? I think it would be nice! If somebody do that, I’ll certainly post it here!

IPhone 2.0 Cake

Here’s an IPhone 2.0 cake, the upgraded one. How do I know that it’s an upgrade? The app store icon! duh!

Realistic IPhone Cake

This one is really one of my favorite IPhone cake I found on flickr. All the apps installed on the cake (it sounds weird) are probably what makes it look almost like the real thing! Also, by watching at the apps installed on an IPhone, you can learn a lot from the owner too.

With the “Happy Birthday” app, I can guess that it was the birthday of somebody (call me detective muggles). From the “40″ on the calendar Icon, well you can guess that it was the “fourthy” of some month, so they were probably on another planet. And from the blue pill icon well… Is it the pill from the Matrix? Ok, let’s not make any joke about it…

I really like the iPhone one. Who ever made it took there time….although i think it shouldn’t be as round.

  10. mrmuggles Says:

Shouldn’t be that big too… Seriously, I just wonder if those kind of cakes taste great or not… I read that they had to use some special kind of cake that keep its shape.

  11. AdjustantReflex Says:

I don’t think it’s that big. It might just be that the person zoomed in when they where taking the picture….or it might be huge!

  12. mrmuggles Says:

The last one has a phone beside it. It’s really a small “real” phone, or the cake is really big :P
