A Picture Everyday

What is “A Picture Everyday” ?

“A Picture Everyday” is a concept where a person takes a picture of themselves each day for a couple of days (or even years). After that, they can superpose all of the pictures and make a movie, so they see themselves become older at a tremendous and fascinating rate. This kind of project has also been realized by persons taking a shot of anything, but at least one shot each day, probably depending on their mood or any special events or situation.

Who Is Noah Kalina?

The first person, that I know of, to get a lot of attention on the Internet by displaying his “picture everyday” collection, is Noah Kalina. This guy took one picture each day of his mug since 2000. He made this famous YouTube clip (that you see up there) that was viewed more than 10 million times! His clip contains his pictures from 2000 to 2006, but he’s still taking a shot of his face each day. The YouTube clip had 2,356 shot in it!

It made such a success, The New York Times wrote about it (and much more) and it became an Internet sensation in less than 3 weeks. He was even photographed with celebrities, taking his famous neutral look that he has in his popular clip.

The Parodies

Of course, when you make a viral video, there is a lot of chances that you’ll have parodies flooding the Web. Remember Star Wars kid? And when you are famous enough to have The Simpsons to make a parody about your YouTube clip, you know you’re popular!

Here is another funny parody… You can see the guy make money and lose it all. Then he’s fat, and a couple of pictures later, after some exercises, he’s slim.

After Noah

After Noah, there was a lot of cool videos and similar projects released on YouTube. Of course, none of them got as much attention as Noah’s clip because he was the first one to do it, but they are still interesting. I’ll show you a couple of other “everyday picture” projects here, but if you know any other one worth mentioning, don’t hesitate to post them in the comments!

9 Months

This one is really amazing! You can see the belly of this woman stretch… a lot! It’s a nice twist on Noah’s first concept! Sometime I’m happy to be a man and not a woman! My congratulations to all woman carrying babies, you are brave!

18 Years

In May of 2008, another project appeared on the Internet. Jamie Livingston took a picture, with a Polaroid SX-70 camera, each day from 1979 until the day he died, in 1997. The project was called photo of the day.

As you can see, the project was realized before Noah’s, but it just became more popular on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 when it was sent to digg. The story on digg linked to MentalFloss.com who discovered the website.

The site was a work in progress, so Chris from MentalFloss.com had to dig around the Web to find who was in the pictures as there was no contact or info page on the website. So far, the story at MentalFloss.com ha more than 9650 digg.

Here is the picture Jamie took the day I was born:

It looks like a happy day after all! What’s the picture Jamie took on your birthday?

Puppy Everyday

Here is another interesting YouTube clip with a puppy! It’s not as nice as human faces because I guess that it’s hard to take a still shot of a puppy’s face, but it’s still entertaining!

Baby Everyday

Here is another nice one. Pictures of a baby since her birth to her 1 year anniversary. It’s probably harder to get the baby to not move while taking the picture!

From 14 to 16

This one is nice because there is a lot of changes at this age, it’s really interesting to see that girl turn from 14 to 16!

17 Years of Photos

I don’t know if this one is real but if so, the guy took a picture of himself each day for 17 years. From 1991 at the age of 31 to 2007 at the age of 48.

Baby to Five Years Old

Yep, another baby “picture everyday”. This one is really well done and has a long time span: 5 years! Congrats to the dad that took all of these pictures!

Conclusion

Those projects are really inspiring and I’d really like to do something like that. But I think that I would just take a picture of anything instead of just myself (or my face), as it’s more entertaining when you watch it later and less depressing than just seeing yourself getting old in 2 min, in my opinion.

What do you think? Would you take a picture of yourself (or something else) everyday?

I wonder how many people become really inspired with such and take out their camera… for a week or so. :)

I guess easiest way would be to set webcamera on monitor and tweak it so it does few shots each day/evening when you are at PC.

These people have serious dedication to their projects, which is awesome. And I agree, the webcam route’s probably the easiest to set up and the most stable. The only issue there is that it relies on you being near your webcam every night, so a camera is necessary regardless.

Still, the gestation video just reminds me how tempting adoption sounds.

Rarst, not a bad idea! If you open your computer, it just takes a picture… but you need to stand in front of it correctly :P But like Jess said, if you travel or something like that, you still need another type of camera. Probably doing it with a cellphone or an iPhone would be the easiest way.

What a fun concept. I guess if you setup a tripod, and marked a space on the wall of exactly where to stand everyday, you could have a fun morphing video of yourself after awhile. Interesting concept!

It looks like the baby is talking. And it’s amazing how a woman’s body changes in 9 months of pregnancy! Also, I think The Simpsons one was funny.

I should try something like that! :-)
